PL Blog Freeroll - Final

The PL Blog Freeroll final will take during the Paradise poker $ challenge (The PL Focus game) on Wednesday 20th June.
The highest placed finisher in that event of the 10 qualifiers will take the $100 first prize.

Errrrr..
Well it's not quite that simple.
I, The Cloud, will be playing in the same event. And if the highest placed finisher finishes below me, then the $100 will go the lowest placed finisher.
And of course, if any of the qualifiers manage to knock me out, then the prize money will be split between the winner and the person who got the bounty ($50 each).

The Players - Episode 8 : Paul Ross

Paul Ross once again has a train carriage to himself

Your best moment in Poker?

It would have to be winning my first MTT, I beat nearly 500 players to win it and came back from a huge deficit head to head with ultra aggressive play.

Your worst moment in Poker?

After I qualified for the Betfred Manchester £20k final with only 200 entrants and falling asleep before it started. Jamiebhoy from PL won it.

What is your main goal in Poker?

Just to have some fun, but to win a bit along the way.

A one line word of advice you’d give to a new player?

Enjoy it, nothing worse than poker getting on your tits and complaining about bad beats all the time. Accept the bad beats and smile knowing you made the right decision and will win in the long run.

How do you deal with the worst of bad beats??

Well, I usually go nuts for 20 minutes, laptop gets a good dig and then I start slating the person in question, only ever lasts 20 mins tops though.

Trickiest Punters Lounge opponent?

It would have to be Jaded, he epitomises the word "Kamikaze".

You enter the Big Brother house – who would be your three ideal housemates??

Samuel L Jackson, Pamela Anderson & Billy Connolly.

Your best ever moment in betting?

I had a £20 double on Cambridge to win League 2 Handicap and West Ham to win the Premiership Handicap. Cambridge pissed it, West Ham won 3-0 on the final day of 99 Season, to secure me a £5400 payout. I bought pretty much the whole pub a drink that night and we get very drunk.

Paul Ross v Penelopeys – heads up. Who wins????

She's the better player, but I would probably beat her heads up because she never knows wtf I'm gonna do.

One thing you are scared of ??

Wasps, I run a fcukin mile and at serious pace away from these!

Worst record you have ever bought?

Probably something like Kylie - Do The Locomotion.

You’ve just won the lottery. What’s the first thing you buy for yourself ??

I'd like to buy an Island, somewhere where nobody else can just turn up, that's assuming I've won more than a tenner that is!

What is the fastest you've ever cleared a train carriage full of PL'ers??

Double quick time. I think well under 10 seconds.

PL Blog Freeroll Seat 9

To qualify for the 9th seat will test your usage of the Punters Lounge.

At some stage in the next seven days (before noon on monday 21st May) I will put up a post on the Punters Lounge. It may be a new thread, or it might be a reply to another thread - and it could be on any section of the Punters lounge - not just the poker section.

In this particular thread I will use the word

"Hairy"

The first PL'er to reply with the words

"I claim seat nine in the PL Blog Freeroll"

will win the seat.

Blog Freeroll - Seat 8 - Bounty Time

To qualify for the Pl Blog freeroll seat 8 is a simple task.
All you have to do is knock out me - The Cloud - in the monday BetonBet focus game.
If this is achieved by someone already having qualified, then wednesday's sporting odds game will be used instead.

If nobody knocks me out of either event - and I manage to win both - then the heavens will open and surely it will become Judgement day - so poker will not matter anyway!!

Some details about the "freeroll".
In the tradition of this event so far, it won't be your usual freeroll - though it will be a true test of poker at the poker table. The prize fund is a winner takes all $100.

Welcome Back

Winning a $5 Single Table Tournament

$25

Winning a $20 MTT

$784

Winning a pot after going all in with 2 7 off and getting called by AA

Priceless

Welcome Back to the Punters Lounge Poker blog. Mr Cloud is back competing in tournament poker (I say competing in the loosest sense of the word), and shall be regaling you with tales from all things Punters Lounge Poker.
So what has changed since I've been away??
Well we have WSOP qualifiers, we have big money winners and we have Backgammon?&%$?
Personally I am lobbying for a Punters Lounge Bingo championship - these games of skill are really not my cup of tea.

Teazz currently sits top of the tree as the BPP (best poker player), Hodgey won the Sporting Odds (Boss) MTT league and CrouchPotato has the best user name - although nothing can match AJ's avatar - ever.

I shall continue to write about Punters Lounge players and interview Punters Lounge players, which will go along side a mix of other random stuff - and hopefully Bingo!!

Time Out

This blog is currently in the middle of a Time Out.
Due to a relatively new arrival in the household, Mr. Cloud is unable to commit any time to partaking in Punters Lounge Poker Tournaments.
I envisage to get going again sometime around mid-late spring.
The PL Blog freeroll is currently frozen - and will restart when the blog is up and running again.

When the blog re-appears - it will have a new look.

Watch this Space.

PL Poker - The History (1960-1970)

The swinging sixties saw a renaissance period for the Punters Lounge.
The club relocated to the Kings Road, and various celebrities were seen on regular occasions going in and out. Poker became cool again, and it was played amidst the sixties culture of flower power and free love.
Although it is common knowledge that Elvis Presley never visited the UK, this is not strictly true - as only the people in the upper echelons know only too well. In 1963 Presley did a private gig in the Lounge, and apparently proved to be "one mean poker player".

One famous night in the sixties there was "the game that spawned a song".
The table consisted of George Best, the British spy Anthony Blunt, Heniek, Kevsul, Twiggy, Terence Stamp, RedFear, Paul McCartney and John Lennon. There was one huge pot - where Anthony Blunt tried to bluff the pot from Heniek with 4 and 6 of diamonds - unfortunately for him Heniek was holding KK - and took it down.
Lennon said to McCartney - "Loose play by the spy with Diamonds*" - to which McCartney replied "That sounds like a good title for a song".

The rest of the 60's were a boomtime for the PL, but unfortunately the 70's were not to be so good.

To be continued...

*The official lyrics were later changed to "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" after a complaint by Anthony Blunt - but if you listen to the song it will confirm the original lyrics.

The Players - Episode 7 : Avon Girl

Your best moment in Poker?
My first (and so far only) MTT win last August, especially since it was a PL tournament, the $1 challenge on Sporting Odds. This gave me a place in the following month’s 50 up freeroll where I came 2nd for my biggest money win. I’d been playing about 8 months then. This will only be surpassed when I finally become BPP later this month.

Your worst moment in Poker?
For me personally, nothing too horrendous yet: When I’d only been playing a few weeks I remember thinking I couldn’t lose a hand because I had a flush and the A was out on the board. I didn’t realise the next highest card counted. Lesson learned. And the first time my lovely AA lost to some rubbish I was so mad I couldn’t speak for about an hour. Now I just put it down to odds, luck, or betting it badly. As a poker-playing household: Thinking that after about 4 months of twice-a-day tournaments we’d just missed out on Runadrum qualifying for the Maxim live final.

What is your main goal in Poker?
Unlike many on PL, it’s not to go to WSOP. I’ve had no success in the very few live games I’ve played and don’t enjoy it as much as on-line. I’m not a natural gambler and I don’t think I’d ever be comfortable playing with even a 3 figure buy-in. I’m told (by someone lower down the BPP table than me) that I lack the killer instinct to win. True, I am rather a ‘safe’ player (although I probably bluff more than you think I do) so my goal is to become more aggressive whilst remaining a profitable player. Oh, and to finish reading Harrington 1.

A one line word of advice you’d give to a new player?
Set yourself a daily spending limit (especially if you’re losing on STTs), and join Punter’s Lounge.

Your favourite hand?? (If you want to reveal it!!)
I’m a bit too fond of A 10 suited. No good reason. Can’t even use the excuse of having got a royal holding it. (I’ve had a red one and a blue one with AQ and KQ ;-)) I’m trying to wean myself off it and making myself fold….if I’m out of position or there’s a big raise before me!

Favourite poker site?
Should really be Sporting Odds, where I’ve won most money, but I’m not liking the Paradise software as much as the old Boss version. I’ve been doing well on Virgin recently – 2 ipods and enough Vmiles to get me somewhere over the Atlantic, one way.

You enter the Big Brother house – who would be your three ideal housemates??
My best mate Judith, because I don’t spend anywhere near enough time with her these days; the doctor – all 10 of them will only count as 1 – with the tardis of course, so the current timelord and I could nip away for some “adventures” and come back at the same moment in time so no-one missed us; and Tommy Cooper to make me laugh (we’ve gone back in time of course before he died).

Which TV/Film actor would play you in a movie?
Runadrum votes for Mary Steenbergen, but I thought Demi Moore, or maybe Dawn French when I’ve eaten all my Xmas toblerones. Probably should be Gaynor Faye for the accent though.

One thing you’re scared of ??
Being found out. I’m good at pretending I’m good at things when really I’m just a lazy beggar.

What is your pornstar name? (Name of first pet followed by mothers maiden name)
Sunny Dawson. Hm, that’s a good way of finding out someone’s security question answer, so that’s my grandma’s maiden name instead! (The real one isn’t any more interesting by the way.)

Worst record you have ever bought?
Too many bad ones with the benefit of hindsight. I’ll plump for Save Your Kisses For Me by Brotherhood of Man.

You’ve just won the lottery. What’s the first thing you buy for yourself ??
Next door’s house, so we can knock through and get some storage space, followed by a house in the country where we’d actually live along with our equine family.

At the end of the 7th January, the player ranked 7th in the PL rankings will gain seat 7.

PL Poker - The History Part Two (1945-1959)

The after war period was a difficult time for the Punters Lounge.
The blitz had caused a lot of damage to the Lounge, and rebuilding took quite some time - with the club not re-opening until 1948. Another significant factor was rationing - when the supply of playing cards became scarce, but luckily insider links within the Lounge kept a constant supply coming.
1952 saw a major crisis within the Punters Lounge, that led onto the PL becoming infamous on a national level - and eventually on an international level.
The "Hungarian" crisis began when the Lounge hosted an International event, for the cream of the World's poker players. The event was intended to be a showcase for poker, and because of the popularity got moved to Wembley. The Queen opened the event with the now famous line - "Gentlemen - deal your cards", and off they went.
The event was going swimmingly until an incident on day four when a reporter (Nicholas Cloud from the Times) picked up on a story about supposed collusion between two Hungarian players, and this was backed up by eye witness statements from various players.
"There were signals going across the table" - said Lord Teaulc.
"One thing I can't abide is cheating" - said the Mayoress of Avon.
"Cheats I tell you, cheats" - said Sir Gareth Blades.
"Looks like Ghoulash is off the menu then" - LargeBoyLarge Esq said.

The whole event was stopped while an inquiry was held in the House of Commons, and the threat of sanctions against UK from Hungary was narrowly diverted after a top level meeting between the Hungarian Ambassador and Sir Winston Churchill.

So the fifties came to an end under a bit of a cloud, but the swinging sixties would bring the PL once again to the fore.

PL Poker - The History Part One (1900 - 1939)

The Gentlemans Club, known as the "Punters Lounge" was formed as a man only gaming club, in the year of our lord 1900. The local baron, Mister Ross, had an idea that a drinking establishment should be set up, in which sporting discussion could take place, and various gambling activities could be partaken in.
The club was built and the membership was taken up immediately.

The first ever competition, the 1901 PL Domino Championship was won by young Master Valiant, after three days of nailbiting competition, and the cigars were on him that afternoon. That very same afternoon, the first ever card game took place. A game of "Poker" - an American import. This was met by several loud objections - "It will never take on" said Andy of the Large, "Blasted Americans" said Sir Have-a-fancy and "Surely it is a game of luck" said Lord Michael of the Slick.
Over the coming weeks these objections died down, as more and more members became involved, and Poker took off.

The Club continued to grow until the outbreak of World War I in 1914, where the club was temporarily closed, but in 1918 the club re-opened with notable new members Sir Gareth 271, Lord Morls of Newcastle and his Honourable Michael Saban.
1925 saw the first vote to have women entered into the club, after some vociferous banner waving by Lady Pockets and Penelopeys, but despite the vote taking place every year, the first woman wasn't admitted until 1937, although the smoking room was still deemed out of bounds until the early 1970's.

The period between the wars was a boomtime for the Punters Lounge. Some amazing betting coups came off - including correctly predicting the "Bodyline" Ashes series, after Douglas Jardine had frequented the club just before making the trip to Australia - and MP David Hill having a nice speculative wager on Helen Wills Moody to win the Wimbledon singles title on eight seperate occasions - although more controversially, some Lounge members were quickly ejected after the infamous 1919 World series fix, when the price on WagerFair for the Cincinatti Reds was pushed right down after various conversations in the aforementioned smoking room.

Although perhaps the biggest bounds make by the Punters Lounge was in the field of Poker.
Aside from America, this was where Poker took off in Europe. The first great player of the era, Baron Staff would take on allcomers, and had some amazing battles with the likes of General Guess from the west, Sir Percival Jaded and the Spanish intruder El Croco.
Many guineas changed hands in this time, and World domination was likely to follow, until the outbreak of World War II in 1939 - where the club was indefinitely suspended again.

To be continued

Around the Lounge

Well the Cloud is back to regular updates - after a bout of paternity leave.
Fatherhood is great, but tough.
Changing nappies is fine.
I can handle the sleepless nights.
But have you ever tried to teach a 3 week old poker hand rankings????
She just can't grasp that a flush beats a straight - seems far too worried about insignificant things like feeding, pooing and being sick.

The Quiet Man leads the Punters Lounge rankings again (nothing changes eh?), although Dave 488 and the croc have both had recent spells at the top. Paul Ross and Penelopeys currently both sit in the top ten - with Penelopeys just above Paul. Apparently, Paul Ross enjoys it that way.

FatboyFat won the Mansion series and the cool $500 bonus prize after a solid 2nd place finish in the final event. Teazz and Gazblades took the other podium positions.

The Croc swooped to win the Sporting Odds November league, by winning the final event. Morlspin and Washman finished second and third, with Morlspin just missing out on the overall title (a bit like Newcastle in 1996 eh Morls?)

Wurzel133 leads the Titan league after four events, with Penelopeys close in second. With an overall added prize fund of $1000 there is all to play for with two events left.

On December 14th there is the 2nd freeroll for all PL Bloggers. You might even see a fella called the Cloud in that one. Watch out, he is a bit special!!!

The PL Blog freeroll now has four seats filled, with Milou taking seat four, after googling me!
Seat 5 qualification will be up tomorrow.

I will start a thread on the Punters Lounge - Poker Chat section - named "freeroll seat 4" .
And all you have to do is to post the answer to this question -

What was the answer when the Cloud asked a famous person a question???

The first correct answer (word for word), grabs seat four.
This is not a trick question.

Freeroll Seat 3 - Pure Class Or Not

Seat 3 is now upon us - and this time quality is rewarded. Only the best will win this one - the best poker player (BPP). The player who holds this title at the end of Wednesday 22nd November will have one hand on seat 3.

The Players : Episode Five - Jaded

Your best moment in Poker?
Taking down a $98 pot in 2-7 triple draw yesterday was probably it - partly because I'd only just learnt to play the game, and partly because my opponent was some guy wearing lizard sunglasses who people seemed to think was pretty good... what was his name... Greg Raymer?
Your worst moment in Poker?
Was close to the money in a big tourney a few months ago, can't remember the exact tournament but it was one of the biggest I've played - I've blocked as much as possible out! I was 2nd, chip leader on my table as well, and I think it was 10 players paid with 2 tables of 6 left. I find rockets, make a small raise, get reraised, shove, and get called by pocket cowboys. K on the turn, and I'm out of it!
What is your main goal in Poker?
To have fun and learn to play a variety of games.
A one line word of advice you’d give to a new player?
Be aggressive, it confuses the hell out of people.
Your favourite hand?? (If you want to reveal it!!)
Hmmm... Razz I REALLY like (A2)K, because people have no idea what you're doing when you raise with it, but the A2 gives you some chance of taking down pots. Hold'em I rarely care what hands I get, as most people who've played me have noticed!
Favourite Poker Site?
Love Pokerstars these days, especially with the Triple Draw added. I really enjoy the HORSE and HOSE games there as well.
You enter the Big Brother house – who would be your three ideal housemates??
Hmmm... Shane MacGowan, for a drinking buddy.Willie Nelson, to provide entertainment.Keira Knightley, for conversation. (Just conversation, honest!)
Which TV/Film actor would play you in a movie?
Johnny Depp, the classiest actor of his generation.
One thing you are scared of ?
The number 13, for some bizarre reason. (I just KNOW there's gonna be some weird raises next time people play me once they've read this!!)
What is your pornstar name? (Name of first pet followed by mothers maiden name)
Monkey Edwards (Never had pets so had to use a cuddly toy from when I was 3!)
Worst record you have ever bought?
Ummm... probably has to be Westlife's double A side, I Have A Dream/Seasons in the Sun
You’ve just won the lottery. What’s the first thing you buy for yourself ??
The most expensive champagne I can find!

Funnies

There's a guy who is a Punters Lounger . One morning, he hears a voice in his head. The voice says, "Quit your job, sell your house, take all your money, and go to Las Vegas."
He ignores the voice.
Later in the day, he hears the voice again."Quit your job, sell your house, take all your money, and go to Las Vegas."
Again, he ignores the voice.
Soon he hears the voice every minute of the day. "Quit your job, sell your house, take all your money, and go to Las Vegas."
He can't take it anymore. He believes the voice. He quits his job, sells his house, takes all his money, and flies to Las Vegas. As soon as he steps off the plane, the voice says, "Go to the Horseshoe."
He goes to The Horseshoe.
The voice says, "Put all your money into a World Series of Poker (WSOP) entry."
He puts up his $10,000 and buys an entry into the WSOP.
He goes to his assigned tournament table. The first hand is dealt and the guy is dealt AsAd.
The voice says, "Go all in."
He pushes his entire $10,000 bankroll into the pot. Three players call.
The dealer lays down the flop which is 8h9h10h.
The voice says, "Shit."

A guy was playing 10-20 holdem and was down about 300 dollars when he looked down beside the table and saw a little green leprechaun.
"Quit playing poker forever right now and I'll give you a pot of gold worth a million dollars.", said the little fellow.
The player replied, "Let me get even first."

Four cowboys were at an old saloon in Tombstone playing poker. A lot of money was at stake as the cards were dealt, and each was keeping a sharp eye on the other. As one of the players called the hand and laid out his cards, another one stood up in amazement. "Hey, George is cheatin'. He ain't playin' the cards I dealt him!"

Imelda won the scariest character in poker poll!!!!

A Poker Day in the Life of the Cloud (2)

Saturday 28th October

Awake early today. The baby is due today, so without opening my eyes, I listen for any moaning noises from my wife - but no, the baby isn’t coming yet. So downstairs I go, put the laptop on, switch the kettle on, and then try to take advantage of some late night American players.
I have an AA which gets beat by two full houses, and that is the end of my morning play.

Eating lunch - and then my wife suddenly shouts out “Jay!!”. I look round startled, expecting to find a Jay standing behind me, but apparently it’s another boys name she has thought of. This starts an hour of her saying different names and me saying “No“, “No“, “No“, “Nope” and “No No No”.

I risk a Single Table Tournament after lunch (wife assured me she wasn‘t going into labour in the next hour), and manage to win it, recouping my losses from the morning session, and making a little on top - which soon goes when I dip my toe into the water of another cash game - where I was getting great pot odds - but no cards to go along with the pot odds.

Late afternoon, and I make sure I am prepared for the impending labour. The phone is charged, the bags are packed, the car has petrol and it’s facing the right way - and we have some painkillers (not for the wife - I have a minor toothache - so I think that should take priority).

Spend two hours flicking between the X-factor and Strictly Come Dancing, and then jump on the laptop again. Couldn’t risk a Multi Table Tournament, as I don’t think the wife would want to get in a cab to the hospital if I made the final table - so I played another cash game.
Fishy Fish McFish was at my table, and I got AK. The flop was a rainbow K 7 3, so when he went all-in I swiftly followed. Fishy Fish McFish was holding K 3. Half of my stack gone. Got him back five hands later - I go all-in with JJ, which gets called by his 8 9 unsuited. A few hands later Fishy Fish McFish goes out when his 3 8 fails to beat another players A A - and that is when I decide to call it a day. Level for the day.

The Players - Episode Four : The Quiet Man

Your best moment in Poker?
The 3 that stand out are winning Punterslounge trip to WSOP, winning Sporting Odds Champions League which earns me a trip to the Midland Masters at the end of November and finally becoming BPP in Punterslounge.
Your worst moment in Poker?
Not being able to go to Las Vegas for WSOP because it clashed with a family holiday. (ended up receiving a cash sum, but it wasn't the same)
What is your main goal in Poker?
I want to win BIG money and have recently started to play Satelites for some of the bigger buy-in tournaments.
A one line word of advice you’d give to a new player?
Play at a level where you feel you can make the money.
Your favourite hand??
I still get a buzz when I see AA and know I'm ahead with a chance to get some chips.
Favourite Poker site?
I still feel most comfortable on Sporting Odds - there was a time when Sharpe thought I owned the site.
Which TV/Film actor would play you in a movie?
Paul Newman.
Favourite football team, and best moment with that team?
Aberdeen FC - winning European Cup Winner's Cup in 1983 beating Real Madrid in the final.
Favourite film??
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Worst record you have ever bought?
My first one was pretty dodgy, 'Dance with the Devil' by Cozy Powell' around 1974 when I was 11.
You’ve just won the lottery. What’s the first thing you buy for yourself ??
A large house in the country with room for a couple of golf holes for me and the kids to practise on - maybe the wife would start playing then

Poker Perspectives

It was hot. Damn hot. Two hours he’d been going - and his brain was frazzled. The five minute break was a godsend. He shot upstairs, splashed water on his face, ran downstairs and opened up another bottle of Bud. He held the cold bottle against his forehead, and then took a few deep gulps. He felt the cold liquid hit the back of his throat, and his nerves were calmed.
He sat down again – the lights were off, and the only light in the room was the glow of his laptop. The time was counting down, and he braced himself.
There were eleven left, and only the top ten got paid.
He looked at his cards. Three Nine.
“Shit” He folded. Maybe too quickly. He needed the cash, needed the final table.
Ace Four – early position. Another fold.
The blinds were coming round – and he didn’t have enough chips – he had to push.
It was getting desperate.
Ace Ace.
Fantastic. His throat was dry. “How do I play it??”
His mind was made up for him. The first player to act goes all in – he was second to act – a no brainer.
He goes all in too.
The other player turns over Two Seven off-suit. Got him.
Flop – Two Six King.
Turn – Queen.
River - Seven.

He hangs his head. What happened?? Did he really get beat by Two Seven off. He sits there, staring into space. He hates this game. He really hates this game. He slopes upstairs to bed.

- An extract from “The Diary of a Non Punters Lounger” – after playing in the Sporting Odds $1 challenge

Got Two Seven off. Had to play it. Got lucky. "Result!!!!!"

Around the Lounge

TheQuietMan remains at the top of the PL player rankings, a position he has now held for a total of 15 days. BurnleyJoe and Pistonbroke hold positions two and three.
Interestingly LouSaban holds position twelve and MSaban holds position fifteen, although I'm sure they will both be very gracious about one another's position.

The October Sporting Odds MTT league is now three tournaments down, with one to go. Daftpegasus has a healthy lead at the top, with TheQuietMan and Redfear sitting in second and third. Valiant is sitting in fourth, but having played one less event could find himself moving up with a good result in the last event.

The Titan league series was won in dramatic circumstances when the Riversnotmyfriend snatched the league from MCFC66 by winning the last event, and taking the league by 370 to 365 points. TheQuietMan (why does that name keep popping up) finished the league in third.

Mansion have decided to sponsor the a PL league series starting on the 26th October, with mansion adding $1000 to the overall prize pool. There will be six events on consecutive thursdays. This is the second big sponsorship deal Mansion have been involved in recently, after securing the shirt sponsorship deal with Tottenham Hotspurs.
They now sponsor superstar players who are dominating Europe with their dazzling skill, and they sponsor Tottenham.

Some creditable performances from PL'ers in the Sporting Odds Masters Pro-Am Freeroll from Elmcroft, PocketLady and TheCroc - with TheCroc finishing a fantastic fourth. The event included persuading Tikay to join the Punters Lounge - welcome Tikay!!

The Cloud came third in a $5 STT two weeks ago - which gets my vote as the performance of the month.

The Scariest Person in Poker

With Halloween approaching the scary season is upon us, so it is time to decide who is the scariest person in Poker. Here are the three nominees.

"Eyebrow Man"

The scary guy from Party Poker. Eyebrows are a little too close together in my book. And his eyes are the same colour as his hair - and that thin mouth. All very very scary. Turn your back for a second and there is an axe in your back. But that is not the worst of it. What kind of man wears a red rollneck?
"Imelda"
Full Tilt's very own goddess - the kind of woman you really don't want sitting at your table. She sits down, and tries to seduce any man back to her place - but fortunately no man would agree - as it means certain death. Unless you are a Punters Lounger with 4 pints and a couple of Jack Daniels inside you. "Hiya Babe, you wanna see my pocket pairs."

"The Artist"

Betfred's finest. He doesn't look very scary, but look past that. Firstly he's wearing a beret. It's 2006, no one wears a beret. He'll ask you back to his studio, so he can sketch or photograph you - but look in his dark room, and there's hundreds of pictures of YOU.

The Players - Episode Three : Penelopeys

Your best moment in Poker?
I have two: an online moment and a live moment. Online: When I won my first champions league tourney at SO, a trip to Vegas for 2. That was my biggest win at that point and huge to me! Live: When I played the Betfair Live Final in London, and kept surviving, ending 3rd having a gigantic PL crowd cheering me on... that was AMAZING... never experienced anything like it!!
Your worst moment in Poker?
Same tournament; Champions League the month after. I was HU in the last tourney and had a quite big lead. If I came 1st I was going to win my 2nd Vegas trip, but I froze completely and played like a fool. I had the winning hand at some point, and he had a good hand as well, but I was too scared to go all in and win the tourney. Instead of winning the whole tournament I came 5th and that really haunted me for some time.
What is your main goal in Poker?
My main goal in poker is to qualify for WSOP and get very far in the tourny aswell... mostly because I want to try and play against the big guys, and see how good they really are ;o)
A one line word of advice you’d give to a new player?
Never play for more than you can afford to lose.
Your favourite hand?? (If you want to reveal it!!)
45 of hearts, beautiful hand!! (once won me a giant cash pot!!!)
Favourite poker site?
Sporting Odds
You enter the Big Brother house – who would be your three ideal housemates??
Hmmmm, I am not much into celebrities. I really think I could have a great time with Paul Ross, PocketLady and Valiant. (give us some poker chips, a lot of drinks, a few decks of cards and we'll be just fine )
Which TV/Film actor would play you in a movie?
Hmmm, tough one... a cross between Lisa Simpson and Bart Simpson.
Paul Ross v Penelopeys – heads up. Who wins????
Now... that's a silly question, me of course ...no, seriously... any of us, I know he would play like a maniac, and I am sure I somehow could use that as my advantage!
What is your pornstar name? (Name of first pet followed by mothers maiden name)
BølleDilling
Worst record you have ever bought?
Erm... I don't have any horrible records.
You’ve just won the lottery. What’s the first thing you buy for yourself ??
I would gather a few girlfriends and treat us all to a day with spa, massage, facials and what comes with that.

Bloggers Freeroll

Thursday October 12th.
Betfair Poker.
7.30 PM.
45 Bloggers

The usual freeroll build-up, that included last minute attempts to get in by new members of the forum, blogs set up with no content (not mentioning any names - Carnivore), and a google search of "punters lounge blog poker freeroll password" (which unfortunately for the searcher only found this blog).

The battle started.

Strangely Burnley Joe started the event with a chocolate bar filled with a chewy coconut centre balanced precariously on his head. (I promised myself I wouldn't make the bounty joke - but I had to, just had to.) Although a few minutes into the game, the Cloud took it off his head, and won himself £20 (a good player that Cloud is).

The game continued - there was dismay that Carl was doing so well - there was threatened bra-throwing - and players were going by the wayside.
Paul Ross took out Daft Pegasus on the river, and then Gazblades done the same to Paul Ross.
Cloud lost a load of his chips when he called an all-in with KK, to be met with Milou's AA (I took it well, and it was one of those things, but my efforts since to have Milou removed from the Punters Lounge have fallen on deaf ears).
The game went to the final 6. Unfortunately Jones12345 bubbled - and the rest were now battling for the cash. Btugero finished 5th and Runadrum got 4th place - and it was left to Teazz, Milou and Gazblades to fight for the big prizes.
Teazz went first and took the £75 third prize - and the heads up battle was won by Gazblades over Milou, so Gazblades is the first PL Bloggers Poker Champion.

An enjoyable event all around - thanks to Paul Ross for setting it up - and to Betfair for hosting it.
Now where did I put that bounty????

Around the Lounge

You'll be pleased to know that this post is about the Punters Lounge, and not my own lounge - although a post describing the TV, the sofa and the rather nice vase upon the table containing some rather lovely daffodils might be appetizing to some.

BurnleyJoe has taken over at the number one spot in the player rankings, after a thirteen day stay at the top spot by The Quiet Man. Slapdash, Valiant23 and Galronix make up the other players in the top 5.

Theriversnotmyfriend won last weeks Titan league event, to push him up to 2nd in the standings - and the HappyHornet was a happy hornet with his second place in one of his first PL events. Third place went to Red Fear - and Pistonbroke leads the way, with two very high finishes in the two events so far.

Daft Pegasus won the opening event in the October Sporting Odds MTT League series - with Valiant 23 and Philossify finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The MTT daily winnings thread is now up to $13,000, which is a great effort all round (well to the players who have actually made a contribution, which is most of them, in fact it's probably all of them - apart from one - 5 letters, begins with C and ends with D, and rain falls from one - any ideas??)

Some creditable PL performances in the Absolute online forum challenge part three. BurnleyJoe and Spurman finished in the money in the first event, to give team PL a 4th place finish. 6ooner and Teaulc made the money in event number 2, with team results yet to come.

Thursday night sees the first Punters Lounge Bloggers event takes place on Betfair poker. Any PL'er with a blog and the appropriate links will take a seat. Personally, I think it's all a bit sad - what kind of person would want to write a blog about themselves and publish it on the internet for all to see. Really, some people..

2016 World Series of Poker

Well, another successful season at the WSOP has ended, and once again, Punters Loungers have dominated proceedings. Of the 52 bracelets on offer, 51 went the way of the PL - unfortunately Event no. 38, the No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball w/re-buys wasn't won by a PL'er, as no-one could understand the title.
The first event - the employee event went the way of Gotafancy (The WSOP chief statistician) after an epic battle with the Cloud (WSOP Official blogger).
Early events went to a variety of Pl'ers - including Slapdash, BurnleyJoe, Heniek and Pistonbroke - and Mike and Lou Saban made history by both winning bracelets.
An interesting heads-up in event 13, when legend Doyle Brunson took on Jaded - and Jaded won. Brunson later complained about "Jaded's strange all-in strategy".
Pocket Lady took down her husband -Valiant heads-up in event 16, and other winners included Newbie, Jeffers, Laidbackbloke, Robilaruk and Phillosify.
The first big event won was the $100,000 entry H.O.R.S.E event. The final table was all Punters Lounge, with the bracelet being won in a furious tussle between Phil Ivey, The Quiet Man, Morlspin and Gazza271 . Phil Ivey, who joined the Punters Lounge in 2011, said, "I became a much better player after joining the PL."
Galronix, Eltrev, Washman and the Croc all won bracelets, as did Penelopeys, Avongirl, Hedonist, Tax Monkey and Teaulc.
Staffy won event no 43, in a game marred with controversy. One of the final table players got thrown out after taking an item of clothing off every time he lost a hand. Swampster protested his innocence - "Last time I won a competition, everyone was doing it!!!".
Red Fear, Hodgey, 6ooner, Moface, SlickMick, BigAndy, Runadrum, Pokerose, Kevshat and Sharpe1ne all won bracelets in the run up to the main event.
The main event was the biggest ever again - 34,000 runners over 4 and a half weeks. Last years champion, McGoatski, went out early - and the final table saw such poker luminaries as The Quiet Man, Ronay, Slapdash, Laidbackbloke, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Valiant 23, Staffy and Gotafancy - as expected, an all Punters Lounge table.
"A big step up from the dollar up!" comment from Phil Hellmuth had the table in stitches.
The final table, televised live for the first time on PLTV, was a resounding success - with a mix of some outstanding play, and some strange raises with 2 7 off, which were always shown. The event was finally won by Daniel Negreanu (says Cloud sitting on the fence), when his KK held up aginst against Phil Hellmuth's AQ.
"The whole event was a fantastic experience for everyone," said new WSOP commisioner Paul Ross.

The Players : Episode Two - Valiant23

Your best moment in Poker?
I’d like to say discovering PuntersLounge and its Poker forum. A new player who wants to learn the game can do so without being afraid to ask questions. However, in my fledgling poker career I think it was when I won the same daily tournament four times in the same week (the $500 added 1cent buy-in on Mansion). To win the same regular tourney more than once is an achievement, so I think I have every reason to be proud.
Your worst moment in Poker?
This was also on Mansion. They have qualifiers for the Poker Dome where you get flown to Vegas and play a 6 seat STT and the winner gets $25,000. The closest I’ve got to the US is when I went to Lands End. I was dominating this particular qualifier, and playing some of the best poker I’ve ever played. I never took the win for granted but I knew I was the best player that night. However when Heads Up came around I lost. The winner got a seat worth $7,000 and I got nothing. However disappointed I was not to go to Vegas I was ecstatic with how well I’d played.
What is your main goal in Poker?
My main goal in poker is for it to remain self sufficient. I have other goals such as the WSoP etc, but as long as I’m a winning or profitable player I’m happy.
A one line word of advice you’d give to a new player?
Don’t risk any money by using poker sites freerolls to learn the ropes.
Your favourite hand?? (If you want to reveal it!!)
94 off suit is a hand I like to play. The number of times that I fold it on a raise and the flop would have hit is countless.
Favourite poker site?
I like Sporting Odds because of the variety of promotions, but my favourite is Pokerstars. At first the amount of different tournies available can be a bit daunting, but once you get used to that it is easily the best. The connection very rarely fails, the tables can be resized and you can customise the background and cards.
You enter the Big Brother house – who would be your three ideal housemates??
How many are in The SugarBabes? Seeing as my wife may see this I’d better say someone else though. This is probably the toughest question. Matt Groening, Dave Grohl and Jack Black.
Which TV/Film actor would play you in a movie?
Troy McClure. You may remember him from hosting such as The Simpsons 737th anniversary episode. However my second choice would be Bruce Campbell.
Which football team do you support – and favourite moment with that team?
Port Vale, and my favourite moment came in 1993. I promised as a child that I would never visit Wembley unless it was to see Port Vale the first time I went. I started to regret that as I got older, but my moment came when we reached the Autoglass Trophy final and Play-off final in the same season, which meant I ended up going twice on consecutive Saturday’s. On the Thursday in between my wife (Pocket Lady) also gave birth to my youngest son.
What is your pornstar name? (Name of first pet followed by mothers maiden name)
It’s a rather pathetic, Lady Bithell.
Favourite Film?
White Men Can’t Jump, although I love watching a good comedy. Arsenic and Old Lace is probably my 2nd favourite film.
You’ve just won the lottery. What’s the first thing you buy for yourself ??
Well, now that Robbie Williams has bought Port Vale from under me I’d have to say I’d buy tickets to the next Oakland Raiders match, then pay for a long holiday in Vegas.

A poker day in the life of the Cloud

Yesterday I got hit on the head by a conker. You know when that happens it’s not gonna be your lucky day – unless your name is Sir Isaac Newton, who built a career out of an object falling from a tree. The worst thing about this experience wasn’t the pain, but it was the embarrassment – as I had just dropped off my daughter at nursery, and there were a load of mums standing around at the time – and they found it really funny.
So I got home – and wasn’t working – so I logged on to Pokerstars and played a sit and go. I think the conker had done something to my brain, because I managed to win it, in a long long battle with a Czech guy. So I’m now the best poker player in the world. The conker has made me a genius.

For an hour.

I followed this up with a fourth place in another STT. A Norwegian guy put me out – AK v JJ. I was shouting – “No Ace – No King” – and luckily for me there wasn’t one Ace or King on the board. Unfortunately there were two Aces on the board.

The wife came home from work – and I played up the pain caused by the conker – how I nearly passed out – how the conker was actually the largest conker in the world – and how I needed pampering because I was suffering post traumatic stress disorder. My wife told me to shut up and stop acting like a pansy.

Wind forward to 9.30pm. On the laptop – playing a qualifier for the party poker monster. The worst poker I’ve ever seen (and if you’ve seen me play you’ve seen some bad poker) –chips are flying everywhere, so the tactics are easy. Wait for a big hand and hit them hard.
KK v A4 – yeeha!!! This is mine - surely.
An Ace appears – and I'm out. I knew it - especially after the last game. Crap. 4th again.

Now would be a great time for my first ever game of H.O.R.S.E. 8 players - $3.40 each.
Hold’em first – hey that’s my game – should have a good start.
At the end of the hold’em I’m last.
Great. Manage to fold my way through O, R and S – and then win a big pot on the E. I’m doing OK. And things improve on the hold’em second time around – and I’m in 2nd – with only 4 left. Got through the Omaha – then have a nightmare on the Razz – and I’m gone.
Out on the Razz!!! (Apologies for that joke, but I did get it from the poker forum).

So that was my day - one win, three fourths – a horse chestnut and a game of h.o.r.s.e – anyone got any paracetamol???

U R Keenest Group on PL

So it's official. You guys and girls are eager.
What makes me say that??
Well look at the title of this thread - then rearrange the letters - and you get "Punters Lounge Poker". So there you go!! In my book it's official now after that.

A busy week this week in PL Poker world.
A big congratulations to Rosco for winning the Heads Up competition. Six straight wins - a fantastic effort. The final took place on wednesday night with many PL'ers making up a virtual audience. Hodgey had some bad luck when his AJ got beat by A5, which would have taken the title his way - but a great performance to get to the final.
A big thanks to Gazza for organising the whole thing, Slapdash for funding the event and Betfred for hosting the event.

Pocket Lady did indeed win the September Sporting Odds MTT League. Her performances in the first three events were enough to secure her the title - a great effort. McGoatski finished second, and won the other seat in the online pro-invitational final, with a chance of playing in the Midlands Masters.

The Quiet Man has wrestled the title of "Best Poker Player" away from Laidbackbloke - which he has held for a total of 26 days. BurnleyJoe is now in second, with Laidbackbloke currently in third.

The Croc has started a regular "MTT Daily winnings" thread on the forum - a running total of the daily winnings made by PL'ers in MTT's. Since he has started it - the running total stands at just over $6500 - well done all!!!
Unfortunately, I cannot see the name "Cloud" on that thread.
It might be something to do with the word "winnings".

Titan League Series Event 1 - Freeroll

Desperation

Last night, the first event of the Titan league series began – the freeroll.
The event was password protected, with only forumites being given the password. In the hours leading up to the tournament, there was a spate of new members suddenly appearing on the forum – many of them asking for the password.
The moderators on the Poker forum rightly didn’t give these out – as only active members of the forum should receive them. This decision was met by derision by one or two of the new members.

Personally, I joined the poker forum in July of last year, and was immediately made to feel very, very welcome (unlike some other poker forums – where being a newbie is almost a crime), and being part of PL poker is a win win situation. I get some very good advice, and also get to play in some real amiable tournaments - and the only “price” I pay is to be an active member of the forum.

The Titan freeroll yesterday included a number of people who had received the password under false pretences. The freeroll had a total prize pool of $100 – a pretty desperate situation if you have to enter this kind of freeroll in this manner – and a real lack of intelligence. If these people had a hint of brainpower, they would join the forum, become involved – and then there would be many more windows of opportunity for them - but that kind of social interaction may be beyond them and it looks like their braincells left town a long, long time ago.

The freeroll was won by Jaded, with a superb front-running performance. Philossify and The Quiet Man took the podium positions.

The Players : Episode One - Morlspin

An interview with Morlspin (the one on the left!!)

Your best moment in Poker?
My best moment in poker has to be making the final table and finishing 8th in the Maxim King of Poker tournament in 2006. After 16 weeks of playing twice daily i made the tournament as a reserve player after finishing 11th in the leaderboard out of over 700 people. Although i only won $40 and a chip set for my efforts, the fact that i beat a number of punterslounge players in only my 2nd live game made it special to me.

Your worst moment in Poker?
My worst moment in poker is a story that were all shocked and disgusted about. The goalpoker mess. I received a call around lunch time off Burnley Joe saying check my email box, only to find out that they had welched on there deal to send him and Fenner to the WSOP, without even personally telling them or giving any explanation, i was disgusted hence the ongoing campaign to stop them trading.

What is your main goal in Poker?
My main goal as a poker player is a goal I’m sure everyone who reads this interview will also have, to play in the WSOP main event and make the final table, a bracelet would be nice too, but hey, lets not be too greedy.

A one line word of advice you’d give to a new player?
My advice to any newcomer to poker...." learn as much as you can, but play your own game!"

Your favourite hand? (If you want to reveal it!!)
My favourite hand has to be my most memorable, J7spades. I won a 3 way all in after a flop of 8,9,10 spades giving me my 1st strait flush and 6000 chips!

Favourite Poker Site?
My favourite poker site has to be sporting odds, now i know we all give em stick, but lets face it, they have great tourneys, easy deposit and withdrawal options, and the majority of my wins have been on there.

You enter the Big Brother house – who would be your three ideal housemates?
Hmmmm a tough one...the 1st id have to say would be Paul Gascoigne, the guy has had his problems, but is a hero of mine, after standing on the gallowgate as a youngster watching him was a pleasure-could also have a kick around in the garden! 2nd id say Phil Hellmuth an amazing poker player and imagine the tantrums if i beat him in the house, fricken internet qualifiers! for my 3rd guest id say Angelina Jolie, sexy, fit and would look great in the pool!

The worst record you have ever bought?
The less said about this the better, New Kids on the Block, Cover Girl.

Which football team do you support?
Newcastle United, best supporters on the planet, shame the side continuously lets us down.

What is your Pornstar name? (Name of first pet followed by Mothers maiden name)
Goldfish called Sharkey, Maiden name was Freel, so my pornstar name is SHARKEY FREEL!

Favourite Film?
Its hard for me to chose my favourite movie, as i love watching movies and i have around 300 dvds at the moment, if i had to chose one, id say Crash, the 2006 oscar winner, great cast, great direction and the story line was amazing, a gem to watch over and over again, a close run with American History X tho....

You’re down to your last £10. What do you spend it on?
Hmmmm my last £10....probably 4 cans of fosters and a $11 buy in to the $4k gtd on sporting odds!

A big thanks to Morlspin for agreeing to be the first in a series of PL players interviews. Watch out for a new Sharkey Freel movie coming to a cinema near you!!!

A big weekend for Punters Lounge Poker.
Punters Loungers appeared on mass for the APAT event in Birmingham. McGin just missed out on the final table - finishing 11th - and JarJar was the last lady standing. Birmingham breweries are now having to bring in emergency supplies after a particularly busy weekend.

Jeffster had a nice win at the Grosvenor on sunday, and Gotafancy, Staffy and Chess have qualified for the Party Poker Monster Freeroll, which has a prize fund of $12,500,000 so far.
PL CCCHHHAAAARRGGGGGEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

And finally, Ahem - a player called the Cloud has risen to 55th in the Poker rankings after a 22nd place finish in the Betfred Ryder Cup.
PL charge - he says in a sheepish voice.

The Lowdown

A quick rundown of the main online events going on at PL Poker -
which can also be found at www.cloud-gets-his-ass-kicked.co.uk

Firstly we have the PL Poker heads-up tournament.
A 64 player event hosted by Betfred.
5000 chips each, with normal blinds – so it promised some long games.
Some games were quick – one only lasted 3 minutes, some games lasted over an hour, and then there was the epic match between Valiant and Pistonbroke. This match finally finished after 4 and a half days, three boxes of Pro Plus and two cases of repetitive strain injury.
This week we have the final.
The Hungarian Assassin against The Earl of Essex.
Rosco v Hodgey.

Next we have the Sporting Odds MTT league – every wednesday in September.
The top two players will take a seat at the Midlands Masters Pro-Am Invitational.
Pocket Lady leads the way with one event to go, with three very solid performances, and will be hoping to grab the league winner’s avatar – pictured left - and there will be a scramble at the bottom trying to avoid the loser’s avatar (right).

We also have the Punters Lounge Poker rankings – where one focus game every day is picked, and in each game a player can earn ranking points. At any time when a player is ranked number one they can have the letters BPP after their name – which stands for Best Poker Player (and not Bloody Party Poker as some PL players might think).

On Monday, the Titan Freeroll and League series will be starting.
3 games of no-limit holdem, and the final game of Omaha Hi-Lo Pot Limit – which will see the chatbox awash with “Why have I got 4 cards”, “How did I win that pot ??” and “Can somebody please pass the Paracetamol."

So, Cloud has failed in the Heads Up, is nearly last in the Sporting Odds MTT, 81st in the rankings - but there is absolutely no reason why I can't do the clean sweep in the Titan series.
Absolutely no reason - at all. Absolutely.

And you now probably realise that http://www.cloud-gets-his-ass-kicked.co.uk/ doesn't actually exist - because I know you clicked it - didn't you???

Making a small profit, but want to make more??
Covered.
Want to play in some great value freerolls and tournaments??
Yep - covered.
Wanna go to the WSOP??
No problem.
Wanna show your cards as you bluff your way to a huge pot with 2 7 off ??
Then PL poker is the place for you.

I’d like to introduce myself – I am the Cloud – a regular contributor and officially the 83rd best poker player on the Punters Lounge – and I will be bringing this blog to you.
My intention is to bring updates from all things PL Poker – tournament reports, advice, offers, incentives and leaderboards – the good hands and the bad hands – and not forgetting the awful usernames, the drunken ramblings and the gutshot river cards that hurt so much.

So, welcome to the PL Poker blog and enjoy - Cloud

How many PL poker players does it take to change a lightbulb??
Three. One to screw it in, one to hold the chair and “GotaFancy?” to update the spreadsheet.
