A poker day in the life of the Cloud

Yesterday I got hit on the head by a conker. You know when that happens it’s not gonna be your lucky day – unless your name is Sir Isaac Newton, who built a career out of an object falling from a tree. The worst thing about this experience wasn’t the pain, but it was the embarrassment – as I had just dropped off my daughter at nursery, and there were a load of mums standing around at the time – and they found it really funny.
So I got home – and wasn’t working – so I logged on to Pokerstars and played a sit and go. I think the conker had done something to my brain, because I managed to win it, in a long long battle with a Czech guy. So I’m now the best poker player in the world. The conker has made me a genius.

For an hour.

I followed this up with a fourth place in another STT. A Norwegian guy put me out – AK v JJ. I was shouting – “No Ace – No King” – and luckily for me there wasn’t one Ace or King on the board. Unfortunately there were two Aces on the board.

The wife came home from work – and I played up the pain caused by the conker – how I nearly passed out – how the conker was actually the largest conker in the world – and how I needed pampering because I was suffering post traumatic stress disorder. My wife told me to shut up and stop acting like a pansy.

Wind forward to 9.30pm. On the laptop – playing a qualifier for the party poker monster. The worst poker I’ve ever seen (and if you’ve seen me play you’ve seen some bad poker) –chips are flying everywhere, so the tactics are easy. Wait for a big hand and hit them hard.
KK v A4 – yeeha!!! This is mine - surely.
An Ace appears – and I'm out. I knew it - especially after the last game. Crap. 4th again.

Now would be a great time for my first ever game of H.O.R.S.E. 8 players - $3.40 each.
Hold’em first – hey that’s my game – should have a good start.
At the end of the hold’em I’m last.
Great. Manage to fold my way through O, R and S – and then win a big pot on the E. I’m doing OK. And things improve on the hold’em second time around – and I’m in 2nd – with only 4 left. Got through the Omaha – then have a nightmare on the Razz – and I’m gone.
Out on the Razz!!! (Apologies for that joke, but I did get it from the poker forum).

So that was my day - one win, three fourths – a horse chestnut and a game of h.o.r.s.e – anyone got any paracetamol???
