Yesterday I got hit on the head by a conker. You know when that happens it’s not gonna be your lucky day – unless your name is Sir Isaac Newton, who built a career out of an object falling from a tree. The worst thing about this experience wasn’t the pain, but it was the embarrassment – as I had just dropped off my daughter at nursery, and there were a load of mums standing around at the time – and they found it really funny.
So I got home – and wasn’t working – so I logged on to Pokerstars and played a sit and go. I think the conker had done something to my brain, because I managed to win it, in a long long battle with a Czech guy. So I’m now the best poker player in the world. The conker has made me a genius.
For an hour.
I followed this up with a fourth place in another STT. A Norwegian guy put me out – AK v JJ. I was shouting – “No Ace – No King” – and luckily for me there wasn’t one Ace or King on the board. Unfortunately there were two Aces on the board.
The wife came home from work – and I played up the pain caused by the conker – how I nearly passed out – how the conker was actually the largest conker in the world – and how I needed pampering because I was suffering post traumatic stress disorder. My wife told me to shut up and stop acting like a pansy.
Wind forward to 9.30pm. On the laptop – playing a qualifier for the party poker monster. The worst poker I’ve ever seen (and if you’ve seen me play you’ve seen some bad poker) –chips are flying everywhere, so the tactics are easy. Wait for a big hand and hit them hard.
KK v A4 – yeeha!!! This is mine - surely.
An Ace appears – and I'm out. I knew it - especially after the last game. Crap. 4th again.
Now would be a great time for my first ever game of H.O.R.S.E. 8 players - $3.40 each.
Hold’em first – hey that’s my game – should have a good start.
At the end of the hold’em I’m last.
Great. Manage to fold my way through O, R and S – and then win a big pot on the E. I’m doing OK. And things improve on the hold’em second time around – and I’m in 2nd – with only 4 left. Got through the Omaha – then have a nightmare on the Razz – and I’m gone.
Out on the Razz!!! (Apologies for that joke, but I did get it from the poker forum).
So that was my day - one win, three fourths – a horse chestnut and a game of h.o.r.s.e – anyone got any paracetamol???

U R Keenest Group on PL
So it's official. You guys and girls are eager.
What makes me say that??
Well look at the title of this thread - then rearrange the letters - and you get "Punters Lounge Poker". So there you go!! In my book it's official now after that.
A busy week this week in PL Poker world.
A big congratulations to Rosco for winning the Heads Up competition. Six straight wins - a fantastic effort. The final took place on wednesday night with many PL'ers making up a virtual audience. Hodgey had some bad luck when his AJ got beat by A5, which would have taken the title his way - but a great performance to get to the final.
A big thanks to Gazza for organising the whole thing, Slapdash for funding the event and Betfred for hosting the event.
Pocket Lady did indeed win the September Sporting Odds MTT League. Her performances in the first three events were enough to secure her the title - a great effort. McGoatski finished second, and won the other seat in the online pro-invitational final, with a chance of playing in the Midlands Masters.
The Quiet Man has wrestled the title of "Best Poker Player" away from Laidbackbloke - which he has held for a total of 26 days. BurnleyJoe is now in second, with Laidbackbloke currently in third.
The Croc has started a regular "MTT Daily winnings" thread on the forum - a running total of the daily winnings made by PL'ers in MTT's. Since he has started it - the running total stands at just over $6500 - well done all!!!
Unfortunately, I cannot see the name "Cloud" on that thread.
It might be something to do with the word "winnings".

Titan League Series Event 1 - Freeroll
Desperation
Last night, the first event of the Titan league series began – the freeroll.
The event was password protected, with only forumites being given the password. In the hours leading up to the tournament, there was a spate of new members suddenly appearing on the forum – many of them asking for the password.
The moderators on the Poker forum rightly didn’t give these out – as only active members of the forum should receive them. This decision was met by derision by one or two of the new members.
Personally, I joined the poker forum in July of last year, and was immediately made to feel very, very welcome (unlike some other poker forums – where being a newbie is almost a crime), and being part of PL poker is a win win situation. I get some very good advice, and also get to play in some real amiable tournaments - and the only “price” I pay is to be an active member of the forum.
The Titan freeroll yesterday included a number of people who had received the password under false pretences. The freeroll had a total prize pool of $100 – a pretty desperate situation if you have to enter this kind of freeroll in this manner – and a real lack of intelligence. If these people had a hint of brainpower, they would join the forum, become involved – and then there would be many more windows of opportunity for them - but that kind of social interaction may be beyond them and it looks like their braincells left town a long, long time ago.
The freeroll was won by Jaded, with a superb front-running performance. Philossify and The Quiet Man took the podium positions.

The Players : Episode One - Morlspin
An interview with Morlspin (the one on the left!!)
Your best moment in Poker?
My best moment in poker has to be making the final table and finishing 8th in the Maxim King of Poker tournament in 2006. After 16 weeks of playing twice daily i made the tournament as a reserve player after finishing 11th in the leaderboard out of over 700 people. Although i only won $40 and a chip set for my efforts, the fact that i beat a number of punterslounge players in only my 2nd live game made it special to me.
Your worst moment in Poker?
My worst moment in poker is a story that were all shocked and disgusted about. The goalpoker mess. I received a call around lunch time off Burnley Joe saying check my email box, only to find out that they had welched on there deal to send him and Fenner to the WSOP, without even personally telling them or giving any explanation, i was disgusted hence the ongoing campaign to stop them trading.
What is your main goal in Poker?
My main goal as a poker player is a goal I’m sure everyone who reads this interview will also have, to play in the WSOP main event and make the final table, a bracelet would be nice too, but hey, lets not be too greedy.
A one line word of advice you’d give to a new player?
My advice to any newcomer to poker...." learn as much as you can, but play your own game!"
Your favourite hand? (If you want to reveal it!!)
My favourite hand has to be my most memorable, J7spades. I won a 3 way all in after a flop of 8,9,10 spades giving me my 1st strait flush and 6000 chips!
Favourite Poker Site?
My favourite poker site has to be sporting odds, now i know we all give em stick, but lets face it, they have great tourneys, easy deposit and withdrawal options, and the majority of my wins have been on there.
You enter the Big Brother house – who would be your three ideal housemates?
Hmmmm a tough one...the 1st id have to say would be Paul Gascoigne, the guy has had his problems, but is a hero of mine, after standing on the gallowgate as a youngster watching him was a pleasure-could also have a kick around in the garden! 2nd id say Phil Hellmuth an amazing poker player and imagine the tantrums if i beat him in the house, fricken internet qualifiers! for my 3rd guest id say Angelina Jolie, sexy, fit and would look great in the pool!
The worst record you have ever bought?
The less said about this the better, New Kids on the Block, Cover Girl.
Which football team do you support?
Newcastle United, best supporters on the planet, shame the side continuously lets us down.
What is your Pornstar name? (Name of first pet followed by Mothers maiden name)
Goldfish called Sharkey, Maiden name was Freel, so my pornstar name is SHARKEY FREEL!
Favourite Film?
Its hard for me to chose my favourite movie, as i love watching movies and i have around 300 dvds at the moment, if i had to chose one, id say Crash, the 2006 oscar winner, great cast, great direction and the story line was amazing, a gem to watch over and over again, a close run with American History X tho....
You’re down to your last £10. What do you spend it on?
Hmmmm my last £10....probably 4 cans of fosters and a $11 buy in to the $4k gtd on sporting odds!
A big thanks to Morlspin for agreeing to be the first in a series of PL players interviews. Watch out for a new Sharkey Freel movie coming to a cinema near you!!!
A big weekend for Punters Lounge Poker.
Punters Loungers appeared on mass for the APAT event in Birmingham. McGin just missed out on the final table - finishing 11th - and JarJar was the last lady standing. Birmingham breweries are now having to bring in emergency supplies after a particularly busy weekend.
Jeffster had a nice win at the Grosvenor on sunday, and Gotafancy, Staffy and Chess have qualified for the Party Poker Monster Freeroll, which has a prize fund of $12,500,000 so far.
PL CCCHHHAAAARRGGGGGEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
And finally, Ahem - a player called the Cloud has risen to 55th in the Poker rankings after a 22nd place finish in the Betfred Ryder Cup.
PL charge - he says in a sheepish voice.

The Lowdown
A quick rundown of the main online events going on at PL Poker -
which can also be found at www.cloud-gets-his-ass-kicked.co.uk
Firstly we have the PL Poker heads-up tournament.
A 64 player event hosted by Betfred.
5000 chips each, with normal blinds – so it promised some long games.
Some games were quick – one only lasted 3 minutes, some games lasted over an hour, and then there was the epic match between Valiant and Pistonbroke. This match finally finished after 4 and a half days, three boxes of Pro Plus and two cases of repetitive strain injury.
This week we have the final.
The Hungarian Assassin against The Earl of Essex.
Rosco v Hodgey.
Next we have the Sporting Odds MTT league – every wednesday in September.
The top two players will take a seat at the Midlands Masters Pro-Am Invitational.
Pocket Lady leads the way with one event to go, with three very solid performances, and will be hoping to grab the league winner’s avatar – pictured left - and there will be a scramble at the bottom trying to avoid the loser’s avatar (right).
We also have the Punters Lounge Poker rankings – where one focus game every day is picked, and in each game a player can earn ranking points. At any time when a player is ranked number one they can have the letters BPP after their name – which stands for Best Poker Player (and not Bloody Party Poker as some PL players might think).
On Monday, the Titan Freeroll and League series will be starting.
3 games of no-limit holdem, and the final game of Omaha Hi-Lo Pot Limit – which will see the chatbox awash with “Why have I got 4 cards”, “How did I win that pot ??” and “Can somebody please pass the Paracetamol."
So, Cloud has failed in the Heads Up, is nearly last in the Sporting Odds MTT, 81st in the rankings - but there is absolutely no reason why I can't do the clean sweep in the Titan series.
Absolutely no reason - at all. Absolutely.
And you now probably realise that http://www.cloud-gets-his-ass-kicked.co.uk/ doesn't actually exist - because I know you clicked it - didn't you???

How many PL poker players does it take to change a lightbulb??
Three. One to screw it in, one to hold the chair and “GotaFancy?” to update the spreadsheet.
